Day 1:
MAY MONSTER MADNESS
Blog Hop!

May Monster Madness Blog Hop

I am so excited to be taking part in the annual May Monster Madness Blog Hop for 2013! Brought to you by Annie Walls (Author), Emma from Little Gothic Horrors, and Ked from Something Wicked this Way Comes...

I love animated short films and for the first day of the May Monster Madness Blog Hop for 2013, I have scoured Youtube for a couple of the best "Monster" Short Films for your viewing pleasure.

The First, "Tidy Monster" was created by Tim Marchant for his final degree project whilst studying 3D Animation at the University Of Hertfordshire. I love this film so much!

The Synopsis:

The descent into an insane mind of an unseen character. A room is all there is in his world, and we watch as he struggles to keep it tidy. Ultimately, what is happening to the room is up to you.

The Second, is a touch more gory, but still so very very clever! The Backwater Gospel by Bo Mathorne. This film was his bachelor film project from The Animation Workshop.

The Synopsis:

As long as anyone can remember, the coming of The Undertaker has meant the coming of death. Until one day the grim promise fails and tension builds as the God fearing townsfolk of Backwater wait for someone to die.

That's it from me, thanks for hopping by and make sure you come back for all your blogger tips and tricks.

  1. The thing that gets me the most on both films is the sound. On the first, the voice of the narrator: creepy! And on the second, the way sound just 'jumps' out of nowhere as if trying to grab you by the back of the neck. Love it!

And, um... is it horrible that I kept thinking, That is such a cool side table? lol

    1. Not at all! I look at furniture all the time... I actually LOVE furniture. I had to look again and found that the side table gets swallowed up! Nooooo! Thanks for visiting!

  5. Very contrasting pair of films. That first one was disturbing, but it didn't really enthral me. That second one, though, told a good tale.

  6. Great animation! I especially liked the second of the two. Great dirty visuals, an undercurrent of black humor and the sound was well orchestrated. When I see stuff like this it makes me wish I was thirty years younger and had the time to pursue this craft.

  8. I love watching film projects like that--it's refreshing to see the situations they imagine, whether they're something all together new or a new take on older tropes. These were really interesting, thanks for sharing!

By the way, love your site! I'm completely coding impaired, so I love tips and tricks like this--and your layout is fabulous to boot!

  10. These are both so great Ben! I think what I liked most about the first one, other than the voice, is that you are looking at only one shot but it's able to give several emotions based on small tweaks. You know? And the animation in the second one is great!

  12. Awesome way to kick off MMM. I've seen the brilliant and disturbing 'The Backwater Gospel' before, but 'Tidy Monster' was new to me. I was actually feeling a tad too anxious watching that. Must have hit a little too close to (my obsessive compulsive) home. Haha.

    1. I get a little skin-crawly with Tidy Monster, and like you, I can't decide if it's the "Tidy" side of it's personality or the psychotic mind I relate to! Thanks for stopping!
